Salzburg Hbf train station is the main railway station in Salzburg, capital of the federal state of Salzburg in Austria. It is the most important station in the agglomeration of Salzburg, and a major transportation hub in western Austria. It serves local trains (S-Bahn), regional, long-distance and international passenger services to many countries. The station is owned by Austrian Federal Railways and operated by ÖBB Infra.
The station was opened in 1860 along the Maximilian’s Railway from Munich via Rosenheim to Salzburg was inaugurated. Duchy of Salzburg was also connected with the Austria-Hungary’s domestic network by the Empress Elisabeth Railway to Vienna. For a long time the station was a border station between has been a border station between Austria and Germany. It serves both the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and the Deutsche Bahn AG. After 1900, part of the station was rebuilt as an island station.
During World War II the station was partially destroyed by Allied bombings. The station was rebuilt and renovated at the turn of the first and second decades of the 21st century.
The bus station serving regional buses and city public transport is located in front of the station.
Salzburg Hbf train station is situated close to the beautiful city center. Take a fifteen-minute walk and you can admire beautiful panorama of the Salzburg Old Town. Walk to the main attractions in the Old Town takes 20-25 minutes. The Salzburg fortress lies 2.5 km from the train station. Public transport in Salzburg is organized by Salzburg Verkehr and operated by Salzburg AG.

The station is generally clean and well-maintained. I slept here several times when I was young and I felt safe.
The station has 9 through tracks and 2 tracks for local railway. Access to the tracks via tunnel. The station is equipped with lifts and escalators. Platforms are covered. Central platform was demolished in 2009.
