Klagenfurt – tourist attractions
In my opinion, Klagenfurt is a nice and definitely worth-visit city, nestled on the shores of the stunning Lake Wörthersee and surrounded by the scenic Alps. The historic heart of Klagenfurt is its Old Town, characterized by well-preserved Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The central Neuer Platz square is dominated by the iconic Lindwurm Fountain, featuring a dragon, which is the symbol of the city. Nearby, the Landhaus, a beautiful Renaissance building, houses the Carinthian Parliament and features a stunning arcaded courtyard and historical frescoes.
On the outskirts of the city you must visit the Minimundus, a miniature park that showcases meticulously crafted models of famous buildings and landmarks from around the world. A few hundreds meter from the Minimundus you will see beautiful Lake Wörthersee. The lake visible from the trains is one of the warmest and most beautiful in the Alps, offering a range of activities such as swimming, sailing, and paddleboarding. The surrounding area also features well-maintained hiking and cycling trails, with breathtaking views of the lake and mountains.
The city is also home to several museums and cultural institutions, including the Carinthian Museum of Modern Art (MMKK).
Klagenfurt hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year. Most popular are The Wörthersee Christmas Market during the holiday season and the Ironman Austria, an annual triathlon event, attracts athletes and spectators from around the world.
Stadtwerkehr Klagenfurt, public transport operator in the city, offers 24-hour tickets, 72-hour tickets and Leisure Tickets.
