Varna train station

Varna is one of the largest cities in Bulgaria. It is located on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and it’s famous for its sandy beaches, rich history, and diverse cultural offerings. Varna train station is one of the oldest railway stations in Bulgaria. The first station building was opened in 1866 as the railway line Varna – Ruse was put into operation. The current station building was completed in 1925. Railway station in Varna was renovated in 2005.

The station building was designed by Bulgarian architects Nikola Kostov and Kiril Marichkov. The same project was used for construction of the Burgas station. Railway stations in Burgas and Varna are almost identical – they differ only in some details.

Between 1883 and 1885 the famous “Orient Express” train stopped at Varna railway station.

Varna train station is located in the city center.

There are bus stops close to the station – you can take buses no 7 or 9 to the Golden Sands, 22 and 41 to the bus station and 31, 31A to the resort complex “St. St. Constantine and Elena.

Seat reservation is not required in regional trains. You don’t need to buy tickets in advance but long queues sometimes form at the ticket counters. In contrary, is highly recommended to reserve a ticket at least few days before your journey from Varna to Sofia.
