The current station building designed by a Soviet architect Viktor Tsipulin was completed in 1949. According to the various sources it was built by prisoners of war, but probably it is not true. It is one of the most interesting examples of Stalinist architecture in Estonia.

The building was recently renovated.

The building houses also bus station. International coaches from Riga to Narva and Russia operated by Lux Express stop here.
