There is also an automated people mover system at the Hamad International Airport within the terminal, and a direct connection to the Doha Metro. The glass-roofed trains connect terminals with metro station. The system is sometimes called a monorail.
It is still uncertain whether the Gulf Railway—a high-speed rail line intended to connect Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—will be built. The railway was originally planned for completion in 2021, but construction had not even begun as of then. Once built, the line is expected to be extended to Kuwait and Bahrain.
Part of the network is planned to include high-speed connections between the capitals of Qatar and Bahrain, as well as between Doha and Riyadh. The new completion target is 2030.
