Guinea has more of 1000 km of railways but railway lines are mainly used to transport bauxite and iron ore from mines to port in Conakry.

There are main railway lines for freight transport:
Kamsar – Sangarédi (136 km) operated by the CBG mining company.
Conakry – Fria (143 km) operated by the Russian company RusAl.
Conakry – Kindia (105 km) operated by state-owned Societé des Bauxites de Kindia company.
Santou – Dopilion (125 km) railway line opened in 2021. Operator unknown.
Construction of a new railway line from ore mines in the Simandou area to port near Morebaya is underway.
Train travel in Guinea – current situation
There is an only one passenger train in Guinea. Train Conakry Express is operated by SNCFG – Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer de Guinée, but the railway line used by the train is owned by Russian company RusAl. Conakry Express was inaugurated on 15 July 2010. The train connects the Guinean capital to its suburbs and transports more than three thousands of people every day over a distance of 36 km. Conakry Express stops at ten stations. The service is sometimes suspended due to various reasons and later resumed. Tickets are very cheap.
Train is comprised of China-build diesel locomotive and air-conditioned Chinese 2nd class carriages.
By the 2030 Conakry Express is planned to operate with 30 round trips a day between Kaloum and Kagbelen according to Mass Transit Metro Project developed by the government of Guinea. Nowadays there are only two trains per day.
