Murmansk is a port city in the far northwest part of Russia. There are two railway stations in Murmansk – main railway station and Komsomolsk-Murmansky. The main train station in Murmansk is located in the city center.
The modern railway station building was opened in 1954. A 15-meter spire with a star was installed in 1959 using a helicopter. It is a three-story white and turquoise building in the Stalinist Empire style with a green roof topped with a spire with a five-pointed star. In 1962 two buildings were added to the main building, which currently house waiting rooms.
The modern railway station building is the third in a row. The building was built on the site of the former station complex, which was almost completely destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. The first railway station in Murmansk was built in 1916. The building was destroyed by a fire six years later. The new station building was constructed within three months. The station was destroyed by one of the Luftwaffe raids.

There is a footbridge over the tracks, where on both sides there are stairs leading down to the platforms. There are no lifts and escalators and is very difficult to access the platforms if you have a heavy luggage or pram. Footbridge and platforms are not covered.
