Kragujevac is a large city in Serbia, but there are only a few trains. An infrastructure is very neglected, train speed is poor, so there are no fast trains, only a few regional trains from Kraljevo to Lapovo. Train from Kraljevo to Kragujevac is operated by Srbija Voz and served by Russian-made diesel multiple units. During heatwaves the trains may not run. There are many intermediate stops in small villages between the cities and the line is no particularly interesting for tourists.

Kraljevo – a medium-sized city in situated at the confluence of the Ibar and West Morava rivers. Its territory lies at an important crossroads between central Serbia, the Raška region and the route towards Montenegro and Kosovo. It’s an important railway junction. The city centre is dominated by Trg srpskih ratnika (Square of Serbian Warriors), laid out according to a plan associated with Prince Miloš Obrenović in the 19th century. The National Museum of Kraljevo contains archaeological, historical, ethnological and artistic collections. Kraljevo is an excellent base for visiting Žiča Monastery, Maglič Fortress and Studenica Monastery.
Kragujevac – an industrial city the principal city of the Šumadija region. The city became the capital of modern Serbia in 1818, under Prince Miloš Obrenović. During the 19th century it became the centre of the newly established Serbian state and saw the creation of many of its first modern institutions. The Knežev arsenal (Prince’s Arsenal) became a major industrial complex and is now an important heritage site. The National Museum and the historic Milošev venac district are among the city’s principal attractions. The October in Kragujevac Memorial Park in Šumarice commemorates thousands of civilians killed by German occupying forces in October 1941. Kragujevac is sometimes described as the “capital of Šumadija” and remains one of Serbia’s major industrial, educational and cultural centres.
From Kragujevac the train continues its journey towards Lapovo – an railway junction on the Belgrade – Niš railway line.
