There are no railways in Kuwait. In the future, the railway line of the Gulf Railway high speed rail will connect the capital of the country with Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The railway was originally planned for completion in 2021, but construction had not even begun as of then. Once built, the line is expected to be extended also to Bahrain.
It is still uncertain whether the railway network will be ever built. The new completion target is 2030. The proposed railway line will connect the city of Kuwait with Saudi border (111 km). The main passenger station will be located in Shadadiya.

There was an ambitious plan to build a urban railway network around Kuwait city. The construction of four lines with a total length of 171 km was planned, 60 kilometers of which were to run underground.
Line 1 – was intended to connect the southern part of the Kuwait metropolitan area with the city center and the university. The line would be 23.7 km long with 19 stations along the route.
Line 2 – a 21-kilometer line planned to connect the business district with the residential areas of Salmiya and Hawally, featuring 27 stations.
Line 3 – was to include 24 kilometers of tracks and 15 stations.
Line 4 – planned to link Kuwait City center with the international airport, running 22.7 kilometers with 15 stations.
The first segments were initially scheduled to open in 2025, and the entire metropolitan rail system was expected to be completed by 2035. The project was eventually cancelled in 2021 due to high costs.
