Railway station in Faro

The railway station in Faro is located in the city center. It’s a small railway station from which trains depart to Lagos, as well as long-distance trains to Lisbon and Porto. Train station in Faro is most important railway junction in Algarve.

The first train arrived to Faro on 21 February 1889. It was a freight train from Barreiro. Passenger service was officially inaugurated by the Royal Family on 1 July 1889. On 1 August 1889 the line between Faro and Lisbon was opened.

Faro bus station is located 200 meters from the train station.

Railway station in Faro is located 6 kilometers from the Faro International Airport. There is no train connection between train station and airport but you can take the circuit 16 bus – tickets are relatively cheap.

Faro – Vila Real de Santo António via Tavira (regional)
Faro – Lagos (some trains terminate in Tunes)
Faro – Lisbon (Intercity, Alfa Pendular)
Faro – Porto (Intercity, Alfa Pendular)

There are no trains from Faro to Spain. The railway station Vila Real de Santo António is located near the border.
