There are at least three important railway museums in Italy. In addition, in the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, there is an exhibition dedicated to railways. The most important is the museum in Naples. The other museums are considerably smaller.
National Railway Museum in Naples
The most famous railway museum in Italy is located in Naples. The Italian name of this institution is Museo Nazionale Ferroviario di Pietrarsa.
The museum is located in former workshops by the sea, near the Pietrarsa – S.Giorgio-Cremano railway station. The museum receives very good reviews from visitors, emphasizing the cleanliness and well-maintained surroundings of the museum. Among the exhibits, steam locomotives prevail, but there are also historic railbuses, for example.
Museo Ferroviario Piemontese
The Piedmont Railway Museum is a much smaller museum than the one in Naples and receives not very good reviews. The museum is located in the town of Savigliano, south of Turin, and was founded in 1978.
According to the website, the collection is quite decent – 14 steam locomotives, 5 electric locomotives, 7 diesel locomotives, 2 railbuses, and about 10 carriages. In addition, various types of technical vehicles. Visitors can also admire a large model railway.
There are regional trains from Turin to Savigliano.

Museo Ferroviario di Trieste Campo Marzio
A small railway museum run by volunteers near the center of Trieste, in the building of an old railway station. In addition to exhibitions inside the building, an exhibition of railway vehicles has been prepared outside.
The rolling stock exhibition is relatively small, but there are many more exhibits dedicated to the history of railways in Trieste and the region, and the history is very interesting because Italian, Austrian, and former Yugoslav influences clashed here over the years.
