Ostrava-Svinov is the second largest railway station in Ostrava. In 2005, the renovation of the train station was completed. Previously, the station and its surroundings were very unattractive and often frightened tourists. Ostrava-Svinov railway station was originally opened in 1847. It was expanded in the 1870s, and in 1895 a new single-story building was added to the station. In 2006, a new glass departure hall was opened, designed by Václav Filandr.
Ostrava-Svinov station is located far from the city center, near the Poruba district.
Many regional, long-distance and international trains to Poland, Slovakia and Austria stop here.

Platforms
Two underpasses lead from the station hall to the platforms. One has escalators, and the other has both escalators and an elevator. The platforms are covered and clean. Sometimes, two trains headed in different directions may stop at the same platform, so it’s important to make sure you board the correct train.
Public transport
There is a bus stop in front of the station. The tram stop is located about 200 meters away—those with larger luggage may find the walk inconvenient, especially in rain or snow. In the past, trams used to depart directly from in front of the station to the city center. Tickets for public transport can be purchased from ticket machines. 24-hour tourist tickets are available.
