Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna – a passenger’s guide

Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (Łódź Metropolitan Railway, ŁKA) is a regional rail operator which serves most of the regional routes in the Łódź Voivodeship. The company was founded in 2010. It is fully owned by the Łódź Voivodeship government.

Currently, the company operates regional passenger trains within Łódź and surrounding towns in the Łódź Voivodeship. On weekends the company launches semi-fast trains from Łódź to Warszawa.

Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna launches two types of trains:

Osobowy – slow train. It stops at all stations and train stops.
ŁKA Sprinter – fast train. It stops at designated stations and stops only. Only for Łódź – Warszawa trains on weekends.

The best offers for tourists

Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna currently accepts Polregio’s network tickets: REGIOkarnet valid for 3 days of travel within 2 months on Polregio and several other regional rail operators and Bilet Turystyczny (Tourist Ticket) valid from 18:00 on the day before a holiday until 06:00 on the day after the holiday (typically from Friday 18:00 to Monday 06:00). These are affordable tickets, but are not valid on the trains ŁKA Sprinter.

Luckily, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna is one of the participants of the the Wspólny Bilet Samorządowy (Joint Regional Government Ticket) – a 24-hour ticket valid on nearly all regional trains operated by eight Polish rail carriers. However, it is not valid on PKP Intercity or Polregio, which may require purchasing an additional ticket for parts of longer journeys. It is very useful, if you want to travel for example from Łódź to Skierniewice by train operated by Łódzka Kolej Mazowiecka and continue your journey from Skierniewice to Warszawa or to Siedlce by train operated by Koleje Mazowieckie. The ticket is not valid on the ŁKA Sprinter trains, so you must not travel from Łódź to Warsaw by fast weekend trains launched by ŁKA.
