Linz Hbf train station is one of the most prettiest and most important railway stations in Austria. Linz is the third largest city in Austria, capital city of the federal state of Upper Austria and a large railway junction. The station serves international, long-distance and regional trains, it is also a terminus of the Pyhrn Railway, the Summerauer Railway, and the Linzer Lokalbahn (LILO). It is the busiest station in Austria outside of Vienna.
The first Linz Hauptbahnhof station building was completed in 1858. In 1936 the station began to be rebuilt by the Nazis- being the closest city to Adolf Hitler’s birthplace – in a severe modernist style characterized by a reinforced concrete frame, high ceilings, and elongated windows. Linz Hbf train station was severely damaged during air raids during World War II. After the war ended, the station was rebuilt for a second time between 1949-1955 in a contemporary sober style.
In 2002-2004 a new building designed by Wilhelm Holzbauer was. Linz Hbf train station is a modern building structured in three levels. The building has repeatedly won the Verkehrsclub Österreich’s award for the most popular and beautiful railway station in Austria.
The station is located within walking distance to the city center. Walk from the train station to the New Cathedral takes 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, you can use the tram. In basement of the station there are stops for tram lines.
The Linz bus station is located next to the railway station.
Platforms are covered. There are ramps, escalators and lifts to the platforms. Most of the station is fully accessible to disabled people.

Linz – tourist attractions

The Hauptplatz, Linz’s main square, is one of the largest enclosed squares in Europe and is surrounded by stunning baroque buildings, including the Old Town Hall and the Trinity Column. Linz is also renowned for its thriving cultural scene.
