Kosice train station is the largest railway station in Košice, Slovakia. In my opinion the city of Košice is a perfect destination for one-day or longer trip and a perfect starting point for train trips to Central and East Slovakia and to East Hungary. The station was opened on 14 August 1860, the current building was completed in 1973. The station underwent major renovation in 2010s. It is one of the modern and nicest railway stations in Slovakia. It serves regional, long-distance and international trains.
Kosice train station is located close to the city center. Walk from the train station to the Main Square takes 5-10 minutes. Some of the tourist attractions in Košice are located far from the station. Old Town is medium-sized and easy to sightseeing.
Public transport stops (trams and buses) are situated in front of the station.
The bus station lies 100 meters away from the railway station.
The station is generally clean and well-maintained but many suspicious people are wandering around. I don’t feel safe in the area between the station an Old Town but I generally liked Košice for the atmosphere and architecture.
Accomodation facilities in Košice are expensive.
Kosice train station serves also as a shopping centre. There is a many shops, service points ans supermarket “Lidl”. I recommend the bakery with sandwiches.
The station has 3 platforms. Access to the platforms via tunnel. Platforms have been renovated in recent years. There is a lift to the platform 1, the rest of the platforms are not equipped with lifts and escalators. Platforms are covered.
