Koleje Dolnośląskie (Lower Silesia Railays, KD) is a regional train operator running services within the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and to neighboring provinces in Poland.
The company was founded on December 28, 2007, by a decision of the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly and is fully owned by the regional government.
Koleje Dolnośląskie is a dynamically growing company. In addition to regular regional connections, it operates seasonal trains in summer, including a long-distance route from Wrocław to Świnoujście and a weekend seasonal train between Wrocław and Berlin.
Types of Regional Trains
Osobowy – a local slow train stopping at all stations and stops.
Sprinter – a semi-fast train stopping only at designated major stations.
Koleje Dolnośląskie – Rolling Stock
The fleet includes both refurbished diesel and electric multiple units. In recent years, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship has invested in brand new trains. All trains have usualy only one toilet, most of the trains are air-conditioned, and many are adapted for passengers with reduced mobility or in wheelchairs.
Rail is very popular in Poland. After major upgrades to the railway infrastructure, KD trains are frequent and fast, particularly useful for commuters traveling to Wrocław. As a result, trains can be crowded during peak hours, and also on weekends due to high leisure travel encouraged by cheap weekend tickets.

Wspólny Bilet Samorządowy (Joint Regional Government Ticket) is the best for weekday train trips. This 24-hour ticket is valid across most trains operated by eight Polish regional carriers. However, it’s not valid on PKP Intercity or Polregio trains, which can make long trips more difficult without purchasing an additional ticket for some parts of the journey.
