Brno hlavní nádraží is the main railway station in Brno, Czech Republic. The first train arrived at the station in 1838, and regular scheduled service between Brno and Vienna was inaugurated on July 7, 1839. Just two years after the original station building opened, a new building was added. On January 1, 1849, the railway line to Česká Třebová was opened. The station building was rebuilt between 1902 and 1905 in the Art Nouveau style.
Brno hlavní nádraží (Brno Main Railway Station) looks very attractive from the outside. Inside, there is a large departure hall with a decorated ceiling. A major advantage of the station is its central location. The pedestrian zone that runs through the center of Brno begins just across the main street from the station. Most tourist attractions are within a 20-minute walk, though reaching the hilltop Špilberk Castle requires a short but steep uphill walk. For many years, there have been ongoing negotiations about relocating Brno’s main train station to a different location.

Platforms
The station features two types of platforms: 4 through platforms where international trains and those heading toward Bohumín and Blansko stop or start, and terminal platforms located beside the main station building from which trains depart to Jihlava, České Budějovice, and various small towns in South Moravia. Brno hlavní nádraží has a total of 6 platforms—first-time visitors may find it difficult to locate some of them. Through platforms are accessed via underground passages. In theory, elevators are available, but they do not always work, making it difficult for travelers with heavy luggage, strollers, or in wheelchairs to move around the station.
Public transport
In front of the station is a major public transport hub. Trams depart from here to almost every district of Brno. Ticket machines are installed at the stops, and passengers can buy 24-hour tickets for the city of Brno or the entire region.

Additional information
Brno hlavní nádraží is open 24 hours a day, but it is not considered a safe place. In 2025, buildings directly adjacent to the station—where homeless people, alcoholics, drug addicts, and other suspicious individuals used to gather—were demolished. The area was fenced off, and these individuals have since relocated to the station itself.
