In 1879 Brașov – – Ploiești – Bucharest railway line was inaugurated. Brașov – Zărnești railway line was opened in 1891. The station was badly damaged during First World War but shortly after war was rebuilt. On 16 April 1944 it was hit by bomb during American air raid and set on fire. It was rebuilt again.

The current railway station building was opened in 1962.

Train station is located 1.5-2 km from the city center. There is a bus stop in front of the station – you can take bus no 4 towards Tocile and get off close to most interesting sites. Tickets can be purchased from ticket vending machine.

Most platforms are inaccessible to people in wheelchairs or strollers – there are no lifts or ramps. There is a tunnel under the tracks to platforms. Almost all platforms are covered.
