Bergen train station is the one of the most beautiful railway stations in Norway. It is located on the east side of the city centre. The station building, designed by Jens Zetlitz Monrad Kielland in the National Romantic style, was opened in 1913 along with Bergen Line. Railway station in Bergen serves long-distance trains from Oslo as well as the Bergen Commuter Rail from Arna, Voss and Myrdal. Trains from Oslo to Bergen are currently operated by Vy.
The first railway station in Bergen was built in 1882 to serve the Bergen – Voss railway, opened on July 11, 1883. It was located a few hundred meters west of today’s main station. It served its function until the construction of the Oslo – Bergen railway line was completed and the new station was opened in 1913. For the next decades, the building housed departments and offices of the city hall. It was demolished in 1976, and in its place an art museum was established, which still operates today.
The current station building was built on the site of a former gasworks, and the station area also included part of a cemetery.
Part of the station was modernized in 1991-1992.
The station is located in the city center.
Bus terminal is located next to the station. Bus and railway stations are connected by footbridge. The light rail stop “Nonneseter” is situaded right outside the station. Light rail called “Bybanen” connects Bergen train station with Bergen Airport, Flesland.
There is direct access to the platforms from main hall. Stairs are only at the front of the station hall. The station is equipped with a mobile ramp for wheelchair users. This is operated by the conductor staff on demand.
