NOTE: The South Caucasus Railway company changed the train operation rules at the last minute: the train now departs from the main station in Yerevan and continues its journey via the Northern Railway Bypass of Yerevan, skipping the Almast station. This may change, so it’s advisable to check the schedule in the South Caucasus Railway’s connection search engine before traveling.
A major highlight of the trip is the picturesque section between Sevan and Shorzha stations, where the train slowly curves along the shoreline of Lake Sevan. This portion is considered one of the most beautiful railway routes in the Caucasus. The ride between Sevan and Shorzha takes about an hour.
The train from Yerevay to Sevan Lake train is operated by electric multiple units of the South Caucasus Railway. These trains do not have air conditioning or toilets, and instead of comfortable seats, passengers sit on wooden benches. A modernized electric trainset is expected to be used this year, but it also has wooden benches.
