Train from Yerevan to Batumi is a seasonal service jointly operated by Georgian Railways and South Caucasus Railway. It offers a convenient way to travel from Armenia’s capital to the popular Black Sea resort of Batumi, with stops along the way, including Tbilisi. The main downside of the service is the long journey time, but this is offset by the modern, air-conditioned coaches. Ticket prices are affordable

Operating Dates 2026
The Yerevan–Batumi train runs every other day from June 14 to October 1, 2026. The last train arrives in Yerevan on October 2.
The full journey is around 450 kilometers and takes approximately 17 hours. The long duration is due to poor railway infrastructure in Armenia, mountainous terrain, windy route on the Armenian territory, border control procedures and an lengthy stop in Tbilisi
The train terminates at Batumi Railway Station, which is located 3 km from the city center. Contrary to outdated information on some websites, the train no longer ends at Makhinjauri station (10 km from Batumi), which was the terminus about a decade ago.

Ticket purchase
Tickets can be purchased online, though a service fee is charged. In previous years, availability was generally good, even shortly before departure, as the train is mainly used by tourists. Locals tend to prefer minibuses, which cover the Yerevan–Tbilisi route much faster.

Border controls
Border Control at Sadakhlo (Georgia). As of 2024, passengers must disembark at Sadakhlo Station for passport control. Georgian officials take fingerprints and ask about the purpose and duration of your stay. Unfortunately, the station lacks basic infrastructure — not even a roofed waiting area.
Georgia and Armenia are in talks to simplify border procedures in the future.
