Trains between Serbia and Romania

Currently, there are no trains between Serbia and Romania. In the past, an overnight train ran between Belgrade and Bucharest. The train was comprised of old seating carriages and comfortable Romanian sleeping car. Tickets and supplement for sleeping car were relatively expensive. The train was discontinued in the first half of the 21st century.

Railway border crossings:

Vračev Gaj ŽS – Baziaş CFR
Jasenovo ŽS – Iam CFR
Vršac ŽS – Jamu Mare CFR
Vršac ŽS – Stamora Moravita CFR
Jaša Tomić ŽS – Cruceni CFR
Jaša Tomić ŽS – Ionel CFR
Kikinda ŽS – Jimbolia
Vrbica ŽS – Vălcani CFR

On the Romanian side local trains terminate at border stations. On the local railway lines tracks and stations are in poor condition and there is no hope to launching passenger trains between Serbia and Romania.

Cross-border trains from Kikinda to Jimbolia operated by Železnice Srbije (present-day Srbijavoz) were ceased on 1 September 2014. There were two trains daily in each direction – according to travellers’ reports these trains ran almost empty.

Cross-border trains from Timişoara to Vršac operated by CFR were withdrawn from 1 August 2017. Trains from Romania were connected with Serbian regional trains from Vršac to Belgrade.

There are plans to upgrade railway line between Subotica and Kikinda in Serbia. Cross-border train is considered.

Reinstating of the passenger train from Belgrade to Bucharest has been announced many times, but currently trains between Serbia and Romania don’t running.
